TV Special
Description
Brian Murphy, a chief inspector in Interpol's Special Investigation Unit, exploited his access to sensitive law enforcement databases to erase records concerning the Bull's Eye jewel and its related criminal activities. He orchestrated murders linked to the gem, which contained a micro transmitting device enabling satellite tracking of its possessors; this allowed Murphy to locate and eliminate individuals who stole it, including Catherine Lambert.
He maintained a facade of professionalism with colleagues like Inspector Koichi Zenigata, expressing disdain for smoking and concern over his suit's cleanliness. When Zenigata investigated the Bull's Eye thefts, Murphy deliberately misled him by denying the gem's existence and dismissing related deaths as rumors. He further obstructed the investigation by falsely claiming Interpol, the FBI, and Scotland Yard held no records of the jewel.
Murphy collaborated with Joseph Malkovich as a front for his operations. At Mosquito Village, Malkovich referenced Murphy's role in Catherine Lambert's death and discussed the Bull's Eye's "curse." Murphy then betrayed and killed Malkovich, framing the incident as a shootout between Malkovich and Lupin. He wiped his Walther P38 clean and disposed of it at the scene while criticizing Malkovich's Gauloises cigarettes.
His ultimate objective was acquiring the "Lupin Collection," a repository of treasures stolen by Lupin III. Upon entering a Mosquito Village house containing the collection, Murphy exhibited obsessive behavior, declaring the artworks "mine" and praising Lupin as the world's greatest thief. He confronted Rebecca "Becky" Lambert, Catherine's daughter, revealing his role in her mother's death and threatening to kill her.
During the village's destruction by Lumberjack's tank, Murphy panicked over the artwork's safety. Lupin and Becky revealed their deception: Becky's explosive necklace was deactivated by Fujiko Mine, and her gun was nonfunctional. Daisuke Jigen disarmed Murphy, and Goemon Ishikawa XIII destroyed his weapon before using his Zantetsuken to shred Murphy's clothes, leaving him in his underwear. Lupin rejected Murphy's pleas to erase his Interpol records or bargain with the collection.
Zenigata arrived as Murphy attempted to flee. Lupin tranquilized Murphy and disguised him with a latex mask of his own face. Awakening, Murphy initially believed he could access the collection, but Zenigata exposed his crimes using newly reinstated Interpol records. Murphy persisted in claiming to be Lupin until Zenigata removed the mask. He was subsequently arrested and sentenced to 850 years in prison.
