Description
Reverie Metherlence, known as Ren, hails from a secluded mountain village of Edel Raids. Her childhood was tormented by relentless bullying from other young Edel Raids due to her status as one of the Shichiko-hoji (Seven Glittering Jewels), the most powerful lineage. This persecution drove her to deep despair and attempts to remove her elemental gelade through self-harm. Only her guardian Griina and the older Edel Raid Sha offered solace. Sha taught Ren self-worth beyond her lineage and gifted her a distinctive triangular-patterned ribbon. This ribbon replaced a humiliating hood that forced Ren to constantly lower her head, becoming her most cherished possession.

After bandits attacked her village, the soldier Keath intervened and stayed to help. Most Edel Raids, including Sha, departed for Edel Garden. Sha promised Ren they would reunite there, igniting an enduring obsession within Ren to reach the sanctuary. Before she could journey, Ren was captured and sealed inside a coffin for an extended period, later revealed as roughly 500 years.

Discovered during a raid by the Red Lynx sky pirates, Ren was freed by the young crew member Coud Van Giruet. Initial encounters crackled with Ren's deep-seated hatred of humans, whom she viewed as exploiters of Edel Raids. This animosity thawed after Coud protected her during an attack on the pirate ship, leading her to "react" with him. This bond allows her transformation into a wind-attribute weapon wielded by Coud. Her weapon form manifests as an oversized sword attached to Coud's right arm. In the anime, it resembles a smooth, pale cyan blade with peach-pink hues and a large blue ribbon, evoking a peacock feather; in the manga, it appears as a jagged, crystalline structure in jade green, enveloped by swirling wind currents.

Physically, Ren possesses long, light-purple hair, green eyes, and a jade-green elemental gelade stone positioned above her forehead, usually concealed by Sha's ribbon. She wears a dark-purple, knee-length dress, metallic platform boots secured by black buckles, and a dark-purple ribbon around her neck.

Initially, Ren was cold, taciturn, and openly hostile towards humans, frequently voicing blunt or rude opinions. Traveling alongside Coud and allies from the Edel Raid protection group Arc Aile—Cisqua, Rowen, and Kuea—reshaped her views. Witnessing their selfless defense of Edel Raids challenged her biases, fostering empathy and trust. Her emotional reserve melted further as romantic feelings for Coud developed, evolving her into a more expressive, smiling, and talkative individual by the series' end. This included moments of jealousy, like when the artificial Edel Raid Viro grew close to Coud, highlighting her deepening attachment.

As a Shichiko-hoji, Ren wields formidable wind-based powers for offense and defense, capable of slicing through steel with precision. Her abilities demand frequent recharging through sleep, leading to her often being depicted napping. She dislikes sweet foods and maintains a singular driving goal: reaching Edel Garden.

Her relationship with Coud forms her core arc. Initial contempt shifted to trust after his unwavering protection, eventually deepening into love. This bond proved pivotal: in the anime, their mutual affection broke the Chaos Choir's control; in the manga, Coud's confession and a subsequent "cooldown hug" halted her vengeful rampage after Edel Garden's trauma. Both continuities conclude with Ren choosing to remain with Coud—joining the Red Lynx pirates in the anime and disappearing alongside him during Edel Garden's collapse in the manga, with implications of their survival.
