Description
General Sakamori Miwa holds a high command position within the Earth Defense Force during humanity's war against the alien Baam race. While outwardly serving Earth, his true driving force is profound xenophobia and a genocidal ambition to eradicate every Baam, exploiting the conflict to justify extreme violence. He deems all Baam inherently deserving of death, declaring those unwilling to fight "have no right to live."
Miwa maintains a strained, strictly professional relationship with the protagonists at Daimobic Base, frequently opposing their tactical choices. Secretly, he actively works to undermine them, aiming to brand them traitors. This scheme facilitates his goal of seizing control of both the Daimobic Base and the powerful Daimos robot, believing its power would enable more efficient genocide. His relentless pursuit of power includes attempts to jail Daimos' pilot, Kazuya Ryuuzaki, solely to gain control of the machine.
His actions consistently reveal a callous disregard for all life. After Kazuya renders Baam soldiers unconscious, Miwa executes them helpless. He consistently prioritizes destructive outcomes over minimizing casualties, advocating increased nuclear deployment regardless of collateral damage and sacrificing his own troops during operations like the assault on the underwater fortress. He openly dismisses civilian casualties as acceptable if they contribute to defeating the Baam, defying even United Nations directives.
This pattern culminates in a direct confrontation with Kazuya following Miwa's execution of the unconscious Baam soldiers. Kazuya physically attacks him, delivering a punch that knocks him unconscious. Subsequent investigations expose widespread EDF corruption linked to Miwa, resulting in his arrest. He is stripped of all military ranks and punished for his crimes, ending his military career.
Beyond the main anime, the character appears in non-canonical media. In *Super Robot Wars Alpha 3*, he allies with antagonist Muruta Azrael. In *Super Robot Wars MX*, he collaborates with SEELE during the *End of Evangelion* storyline. There, he commands a convict piloting a Gilgazamune mecha from *Metal Armor Dragonar*, meeting his demise when the mecha is destroyed. While Kazuya expresses pity, another character, Kyoshiro, states Miwa deserved this fate.
