Description
Senbei Norimaki, nicknamed Dr. Slump for his creative blocks and unreliable inventions, is Penguin Village's eccentric primary inventor. He created Arale Norimaki, a superhumanly strong robot girl intended as the world's most perfect little girl, though his flawed craftsmanship left her severely nearsighted. Senbei possesses a lecherous personality and frequently pursues romantic misadventures, especially with Arale's schoolteacher, Midori Yamabuki. After prolonged unrequited affection and misunderstandings, he successfully proposes; they marry abruptly, making her Mrs. Midori Norimaki. The couple later has a son, Turbo Norimaki, who gains teleportation, flight, and telekinesis after an alien encounter, surpassing his father's intellect.
Senbei's inventions often backfire or malfunction. He built the "Time Slipper," a time-traveling device with a talking clock named Time-kun, leading to chaotic adventures. During time travel, he obtained an egg that hatched Gatchan, a cherub-like entity later revealed to have angelic origins tied to a mission to curb human advancement. Senbei maintains a recurring rivalry with the villainous Dr. Mashirito, modeled after Akira Toriyama's editor. Mashirito created Obotchaman, a polite male robot based on Arale's design who becomes her love interest; narrative continuity shows them married with a robotic child crafted by Senbei in the future.
Senbei's daily habit is consuming only three-minute cup noodles, reflecting his perpetually rushed lifestyle. His visual design includes the ability to briefly transform into a taller, handsome version resembling Tony Stark. Toriyama initially conceived Senbei as the protagonist before shifting focus to Arale. In broader franchise media, like the film *Hoyoyo!! Follow the Rescued Shark...*, Senbei participates in family-centric adventures such as undersea excursions prompted by Arale's actions, with his role remaining consistent as a comically flawed genius navigating domestic chaos and scientific rivalries in Penguin Village's surreal environment.
