Description
Arale Norimaki is an android crafted by inventor Senbei Norimaki in Penguin Village, designed as a young girl robot intended as the world's first perfect android. Her creation originated from Senbei's initial plan for a large robot, scaled down for practicality before evolving into a girl form to suit editorial preferences. Senbei presents her as his younger sister or daughter to villagers, masking her mechanical nature despite her frequent displays of superhuman capabilities. Her sole physical flaw is severe nearsightedness, corrected by glasses initially conceived as a temporary gag but kept due to positive reader feedback regarding representation.

She exhibits a childlike personality defined by naivety, boundless energy, and minimal common sense, often triggering chaotic situations. While her robotic intelligence enables advanced problem-solving such as mathematical equations and medical procedures, her interests remain firmly childish: fascination with feces (frequently poking it with sticks), admiration for Japanese superheroes like Ultraman, and enthusiasm for giant monster films. She greets others with "N'cha" (adopted from Senbei) and exclaims "Hoyoyo" when bewildered or "Kiiin" while running with arms outstretched. Her purity of heart allows her to ride cloud vehicles like Kinto'un.

Arale possesses immense, reality-defying strength and durability, casually performing feats like splitting the Earth with a punch (Chikyūwari) or launching energy beams (N'cha Cannon). She survives decapitation, functions in space without oxygen, and regenerates from severe damage due to her gag-character immortality, which prevents permanent harm. Her abilities include body manipulation—detaching limbs, growing wings, shapeshifting—and vehicular mastery. She exhibits unconventional powers like social influencing, causing enemies to lose fighting spirit or descend into madness, and communicates with non-human entities like the creature Gatchan.

Her development starts with enrollment at Penguin Village Middle School, where she befriends rebellious Akane Kimidori and brothers Taro and Peasuke Soramame. She later adopts Gatchan, a winged entity hatched from a prehistoric egg, integrating it into the Norimaki family. Key events involve rescuing a cyborg bear, confronting villains like bank robbers and alien king Nikochan (whose ship Gatchan consumes), and time-travel escapades using Senbei's inventions. Her adventures escalate to cosmic scales, such as inadvertently saving Earth from destruction.

In Dragon Ball crossovers, Arale aids Goku by defeating General Blue and appears in films like *The Great Mystical Adventure*, maintaining her established traits. Post–*Dr. Slump*, she features in sequel manga *Dr. Slump Returns* and *Dragon Ball Super*, where her gag-based powers humorously challenge serious fighters like Vegeta. A 10-year timeskip in her original series depicts her as Penguin Village's mayor, reflecting societal integration without physical aging.

Her cultural impact includes inspiring *Naruto* creator Masashi Kishimoto and influencing character designs like *Dragon Quest Builders 2*. Shigeru Miyamoto cited her running style as reference for Mario's movement physics. These elements cement her status as an iconic figure in manga and anime history.
