Description
Yumeko Tendō appears in the 1985 anime series, debuting in its third episode. As a fourth-grade elementary student standing 143cm tall and weighing 39kg, she lives with her younger brother Hoshirō, father Masao, and mother Yūko. Her ambition is to become a picture book author.

She sports long brown hair with short bangs brushing her eyebrows and consistently wears a blue dress featuring white sleeves and collar, paired with white socks and blue shoes. Yumeko’s personality radiates kindness, anchored by her conviction that humans and yōkai can coexist peacefully. This belief guides her supernatural interactions.

Her closest bond forms with Kitarō, whom she considers both a friend and romantic interest. This sparks rivalry with Neko-Musume, leading to frequent squabbles over Kitarō’s attention. Among other yōkai, Nezumi-Otoko develops an inappropriate obsession, often attempting unwanted embraces or kisses. Yumeko tolerates his presence, occasionally exploiting his infatuation to aid Kitarō’s group. She notably inspires Shu-no-Bon, who reveres her as an "angel." Her compassion drives his redemption: he betrays Nurarihyon and sacrifices himself during the Jigoku Arc finale. Shu-no-Bon’s quieter affection contrasts Nezumi-Otoko’s intensity.

Her name carries symbolism: "Yumeko" merges "dream/vision" (夢) and "child" (子), while "Tendō" means "cherub" or "gods disguised as children," collectively evoking "heavenly dream child." She has an image song titled "Otome chikku na Koi" (Maiden Chick Love).

Beyond the 1985 series, Yumeko features in the 1986 film *GeGeGe no Kitarō: Saikyō Yōkai Gundan! Nihon Jōriku!!*. She also cameos in the manga *Saishinban GeGeGe no Kitarō*, where Chapter 12 implies she has aged into a high school student—marking her sole documented character progression. Her narrative roles include being trapped in a mirror by Kagami-Jijii during her debut, initiating her encounter with Kitarō’s group, and later influencing Shu-no-Bon’s arc in the Jigoku Arc.
