Description
Emperor Lugal, supreme ruler of the Denguil Empire, serves as the primary antagonist in the 1983 film "Final Yamato." Leading the Dingirians, he flees his drowning homeworld aboard the colossal space station Uruk, deliberately abandoning the majority of his people to perish, convinced only the strong deserve survival. He shows no emotion upon learning his wife and younger son died during the planet's flooding, embodying his social Darwinist philosophy.

His objective is to relocate the water planet Aquarius to flood Earth, exterminating humanity to make way for Dingirian colonization. This fuels his relentless assault on Earth's forces. During the Battle of Aquarius, he personally leads troops while riding a mechanical horse, slaughtering human defenders without hesitation. Unbeknownst to him, his younger son was rescued by the Yamato and is aboard during the conflict.

When his elder son, General Lugal de Zahl, fails to destroy the Yamato, Lugal executes him for incompetence. Later, attempting to execute Yamato captain Susumu Kodai, Lugal accidentally shoots and kills his remaining son, who intervenes to save Kodai. Lugal displays no concern over this loss and subsequently triggers Uruk’s self-destruct mechanism, annihilating all remaining occupants once the station serves its purpose.

In his final confrontation, Lugal commands the flagship Prey Noah against the Yamato. His fleet surrounds the Earth ship, but the sudden arrival of Emperor Dessler and the Galman fleet intercepts the attack. Lugal displays visible shock at Dessler's intervention, a rare break in his impassive demeanor. The Prey Noah is destroyed by Dessler’s cannon, vaporizing Lugal and ending the Denguil Empire.

The character's name derives from the Sumerian word "Lugal" (𒈗), meaning "king." He is frequently depicted riding a mechanical horse during battles. Fan analyses within the franchise regard him as one of the most intensely despised villains due to his complete lack of redeeming qualities and extreme acts of cruelty, including the extermination of his own family and people. He appears exclusively in "Final Yamato."
