Movie
Description
The stepmother, known as "madrasta," serves as a secondary antagonist. A greedy and abusive guardian to the orphaned Anya, she assumes custody after Anya's parents' death. She subjects Anya to relentless mistreatment and domestic labor while favoring her own biological daughter.
Her primary motivation is materialistic greed. When the Queen offers a substantial gold reward for galanthus flowers in midwinter, the stepmother forcibly sends Anya into a dangerous blizzard to retrieve them, fully aware the task is seasonally impossible and potentially fatal.
Her cruelty extends beyond neglect into active malice, demonstrated through verbal abuse and physical aggression, including confiscating Anya's inherited possessions. After supernatural intervention helps Anya obtain the flowers, the stepmother and her daughter steal a magical ring gifted to Anya by the Twelve Months spirits.
The stepmother faces supernatural retribution for her actions. Upon attempting to coerce Anya into revealing the flowers' location, she and her daughter are transformed into dogs by the Twelve Months spirits. This forced transformation serves as punishment for their cruelty, with the curse persisting until they demonstrate genuine moral reform.
Her story remains confined to the original film.
