Description
Yuusuke Harukaze, Doremi and Pop's paternal grandfather, lives in Hida. He upholds the family tradition of shunkei lacquer-painting, with an heirloom painted wood piece displayed in his workshop. Beyond lacquerwork, he sculpts masks portraying relatives like Mayuri and Zenjuro, showcasing his artistic versatility.

Initially appearing stern and reserved—especially to Aiko Senoo—Yuusuke later reveals a gentle nature, letting children such as Momoko sit on his lap during meals. His relationship with his son Keisuke remains strained throughout the Motto! Ojamajo Doremi: Secret of the Frog Stone film, marked by Keisuke's resentment. They reconcile by collaborating to reenact the local legend of star-crossed lovers Mayuri and Zenjuro, tied to the "Frog Stone." This shared cultural performance mends their emotional rift.

Reflecting on his advanced age, Yuusuke calmly notes that "the other world" approaches, showing Aiko his age spots as natural signs of aging. His serene acceptance deeply moves Doremi and her friends to tears. Later, in the light novel sequel series, he continues as both a farmer and celebrated shunkei artisan, maintaining his role in family stories.
