Princesa Kushinada is a young girl from Izumo Province, the eighth daughter of a family that lost seven daughters sacrificed to the eight-headed serpent Yamata no Orochi. She now faces the same sacrifice unless the serpent is stopped. Her family shares this history with the god Susanoo, compelling him to protect her and confront Orochi.

Visually, Kushinada features a broad head and simplified, unshaded forms, consistent with the film's modernist art style. Her design contrasts with more traditionally depicted goddesses like Amaterasu, emphasizing her human and earthly nature within the myth.

Her relationship with Susanoo forms a central emotional arc. He perceives her beauty as reminiscent of his deceased mother, deepening his commitment to her safety and shifting his primary motivation from seeking his mother to protecting her. During Susanoo's battle against Orochi, aided by companions, Kushinada remains hidden for protection. They reunite after the serpent's defeat in a moment of mutual relief.

Reflecting the original Shinto myth, Kushinada is transformed into a comb during the confrontation for safekeeping, mirroring the Kojiki account where Susanoo converts Kushinada-hime into a comb. This integrates the mythological element into the film's narrative.

Kushinada's influence extends beyond the immediate plot. Susanoo's encounter with her catalyzes his decision to abandon his quest for the afterlife and remain in the human world, symbolizing his transition from grief to purpose and underscoring her role in his emotional development.
