Description
Monsieur Gourmon emerges as the primary antagonist in the 1976 animated feature *Nagagutsu o Haita Neko: 80 Nichikan Sekai Isshū*. This influential and wealthy resident of Dondon wagers his entire fortune on a bet challenging Pero (Puss 'n Boots) to circumnavigate the globe within 80 days. The precise terms demand Pero appear atop the town clock tower exactly as it strikes noon on the final day to claim victory. Motivated by disbelief in the journey's feasibility and a determination to protect his wealth, Gourmon actively employs obstructive tactics to sabotage Pero's progress.

The character reappears in the 1986 Family Computer video game *Nagagutsu o Haita Neko: Sekai Isshū 80 Nichi Dai Bōken*, which adapts the film's premise. Gourmon again instigates the global wager and functions as Pero's antagonist. His villainous portrayal is solidified in the game's 1990 North American localization, *Puss 'n Boots: Pero's Great Adventure*. Gourmon's character design and narrative role were subsequently adapted for the animated television series *Captain N: The Game Master*. The Season 2 episode "Once Upon A Time Machine" reimagines him (credited as Count Gourmon) alongside Pero and inventor Dr. Garigari, maintaining his core traits of wealth, influence, and antagonism toward the protagonist.
