Description
Ryō Yatabe (spelled Ryo Yatabe in some sources) investigates the disappearance of his friend Kenjō Masato, who vanished during activities at advanced vehicle company Yaesu Industries. This pursuit leads Ryō to accept an invitation from Yaesu's chairman, Gray Gear, for a late-night visit to the Makuhari test course. There, he operates the same experimental machine Masato tested, the Vector Versus. During this unauthorized drive, Ryō surpasses 300 kilometers per hour, triggering a warp that transports him into the hostile alternate dimension known as the High Speed Dimension.
Immediately attacked by monstrous Devastators upon arrival, Ryō faces a lethal encounter until rescue arrives from a team of mecha pilots employed by Yaesu Engineering. These pilots reveal Yaesu's secret development of transforming combat robots, Versus Units, to fight the Devastators and protect both dimensions. Ryō learns the Devastators inhabit this realm and that nefarious organizations conduct dangerous experiments exploiting the dimensional connection.
Following his rescue and induction into Yaesu's operations, Ryō partners with Nami Hoshino, a Yaesu research lab driver with cybernetic enhancements resulting from her own prior Devastator encounter. Together, they become the primary co-pilots of the specialized white and red transforming Vector Versus mecha, capable of shifting from a high-speed vehicle into an armed robot. The Vector Versus is equipped with weapons including a laser cannon and the dual drill Pile Tornado on its right wrist.
Ryō's role evolves from investigator seeking his missing friend to active participant in Yaesu's defense. He combats the Devastator threat and confronts those exploiting the dimensional rift, including the supranational organization NADO.
