Description
Kujo Nico, known personally as Sirius, served as a Processor in the Fourth Platoon of the elite Eighty-Six unit, the Spearhead Squadron. Born in March RY 349 (SY 2130) with Meridiana heritage, he had a dark complexion, black hair, and gray eyes, possessing the largest build in the squadron. He lived with his father, mother, and siblings, attending school only briefly before the war.
Nico maintained an upbeat and optimistic outlook, guided by his motto to enjoy life fully and believing losing the ability to laugh meant defeat. Despite his rugged appearance, he possessed expertise in astrology, frequently sharing this knowledge. He taught squadron member Kaie Taniya about meteor showers and explained celestial phenomena to the autonomous drone Fido, smiling fondly while acknowledging Fido might not understand his countdown. He often engaged in stargazing and expressed a desire to watch the moon.
Assigned to the Spearhead Squadron in the First Ward on April 1, RY 367, Nico immediately started a daily countdown to his military service end, updating it on a hangar blackboard, a ritual Lev disapproved of but which continued. On April 5, he attended a cherry blossom party celebrating the squadron's formation, where members observed shooting stars. Throughout May, he participated in routine activities like meals, soccer matches—accidentally striking Lev with a ball—and nighttime astronomy sessions with Fido.
His final mission occurred on May 22, RY 367, during a nighttime rescue operation. Mistaking a dormant Self-Propelled Mine for an injured soldier, Nico approached and suffered mortal wounds when it activated. In agonizing pain, he was euthanized by squadron leader Shinei Nouzen (Shin), becoming the Spearhead Squadron's third casualty; his countdown stopped at 128 days. Before dying, he found comfort in Shin's presence and extracted Shin's promise never to forget him.
Relationships defined his service: He viewed Mina Shiroka as a sister and acknowledged Raiden Shuga as the squadron's "mom," supporting his vice-captain role. He clashed physically with Kaie Taniya, losing a dominance contest but later bonding over astronomy lessons. Lev Aldrecht frequently lectured him, while he and Daiya Irma performed acts like belly dancing to distract Shin. He expressed curiosity about their Handler, Vladilena Milizé, hoping she might be a "kind princess" to save the Eighty-Six. His bond with Shin involved deep trust, believing Shin should guide them in death rather than die alongside them.
His associated flower is the Gloriosa Lily, and his personal name "Sirius" originates from the brightest star in the Canis Major constellation.
