Originally an Autobot security officer, Wing Dagger was tasked with guarding the Decepticon prisoner Shockblast on Cybertron. After a Decepticon uprising freed Shockblast, a confrontation resulted in the death of Wing Dagger’s partner, Padlock. Swearing revenge, Wing Dagger pursued the fugitive. In a later battle, Shockblast collapsed an energon tower onto Wing Dagger and the Decepticon Tidal Wave. While Tidal Wave survived, Wing Dagger was critically wounded and presumed dead. His inert form was recovered by the entity Primus. With aid from the human Rad, Primus restored the Autobot, granting him a Spark of Combination and reformatting him into a new, more powerful form: Wing Saber. This rebirth served a singular purpose—to become a dedicated partner to Optimus Prime. As Wing Saber, his former positive traits were amplified. He demonstrated great courage and a powerful sense of justice, especially toward those who had fallen to the Decepticons. A profound loyalty to Optimus Prime defined him, often answering the leader’s call without hesitation and taking great pride in their partnership. This loyalty sometimes expressed itself as a view of being Optimus Prime’s personal servant, a notion Optimus Prime corrected. Over time, these strengths fostered significant arrogance and self-assurance in his combat abilities. This confidence led him to act independently and occasionally operate outside the standard Autobot command structure, frustrating his teammates. His personal mission remained the capture of Shockblast to avenge Padlock. With Autobot support, he achieved this goal on Iron Planet, where Shockblast was defeated and captured. However, after Shockblast escaped again shortly thereafter, Wing Saber’s dedication to this vendetta diminished, and the matter was not pursued further. Functionally, Wing Saber could disassemble and combine with Optimus Prime, granting the Autobot leader immense power and new combat configurations, including a Flight Mode and a Cannon Mode. This combinatory ability was central to his role. He also commanded a personal team of Mini-Cons known as the Caliber Mini-Con Team. Following the Energon conflict, a mission with Optimus Prime to save a stranded astronaut in the Chaar asteroid belt led to a falling out between them. This event fostered a new rebellious and irreverent edge to his personality, prompting him to leave Optimus Prime’s team for a time. He later returned during the search for the Cyber Planet Keys, responding to an Omega Frequency wave. Upon rejoining the Autobots, he initially displayed a defiant and occasionally violent attitude toward his former allies, but he reintegrated quickly. During a battle with a giant-sized Starscream, he and Optimus Prime successfully revived their ability to combine, achieving a new Sonic Wing Mode. From that point forward, he willingly combined with Optimus Prime whenever needed.
