Description
Curtis Lawson, a genius engineer aligned with TERRA, engineered the pivotal time travel machine bridging 1999 AD and 2999 AD. His invention enabled the faction to recruit past-era individuals with exceptional reflexes for piloting starships in simulated combat scenarios that dictated planetary control. Lawson conceived this gateway after discovering fictional novels about Yamamoto Yohko in his own time, sparking his technological pursuit. When activating the machine in 1999 AD, he encountered the real Yohko Yamamoto, shattering his assumption of her fictional status and directly recruiting her as TERRA's inaugural pilot candidate.
Beyond temporal technology, Lawson designed TERRA's TA-series starships, including Yohko's specialized Super Strike TA-29. He integrated teleportation safety protocols to return pilots to their mothership upon starship destruction, ensuring zero fatalities during TERRA's war games against rival faction NESS.
Lawson later journeyed to 1999 AD intending to permanently sever the recruited pilots' access to the future. The pilots thwarted his plan, prompting him to escort them to the war-torn Estanatreich. There, they confronted Sara Dread—a figure from Lawson's past tied to the antagonistic entity Zenga.
His history with Sara Dread traces to a joint mission on Sakura Taurus, where Lawson attempted to revive her from dormancy within a TA-21 starship core. Sara rejected his efforts, siding with Zenga instead and exposing unresolved personal conflicts. Lawson's origins involve being cloned through the Old Timer's Inheritance process, linking him thematically to other cloned individuals such as Yohsuke Yamamoto.
