Description
The Great General of Darkness reigns as the supreme military commander of the ancient Mycenae Empire, an underground civilization emerging to conquer the world following Dr. Hell's defeat. His origins stretch back millennia, marked by unwavering loyalty solely to the Emperor of Darkness, whom he served even before the empire's founding. Commanding the empire's seven armies, he directs seven subordinate generals, each leading legions of advanced Warrior Beasts. He enforces absolute authority, meting out severe punishment for failure, yet occasionally reveals concern for fallen subordinates, expressing desires for vengeance.
Physically, he manifests as a towering armored warrior. His design varies: some depictions show dark blue or black Roman-inspired armor with a spiked helmet, a red cape, and a bearded face embedded in his chest. Others feature armor with red and gold trim, a violet-lined cape, a waist chain, and a chest face displaying blond hair and red sclera. His combat prowess overwhelms; he wields a massive sword single-handedly to cleave through enemies and landscapes—bisecting Mount Fuji in one strike. He unleashes energy beams from his eyes for ranged attacks and possesses exceptional defensive capabilities, resisting assaults from powerful robots. He adheres to a warrior's code of honor, preferring direct combat over underhanded tactics and disdaining unnecessary sacrifice.
His campaigns launch worldwide assaults on major cities, deploying Warrior Beasts and generals to obliterate landmarks like the Great Pyramid of Egypt, the Great Wall of China, and New York City. These attacks target both civilian populations and defending Mazinger Army robots—Baion Beta, Daion Gamma, Venus A, and Great Mazinger. His strategic goal focuses on eliminating the Mazinger robots, especially the Mazinkaiser, which he perceives as a critical threat. To achieve this, he orders relentless pursuit and assassination attempts on its pilot, Koji Kabuto, through subordinates like Archduke Gorgon.
In confrontations, he demonstrates resilience and tactical acumen. During a duel with Great Mazinger, he initially overpowers the robot but falls when the pilot exploits a momentary lapse in his guard. His final battle against Mazinkaiser sees him match the robot's strength and pin it down before rocket punches disarm him. The conflict ends with him knocked into a crater and impaled on his own sword. Despite physical destruction, his influence persists; some timelines show him vowing vengeance amid defeat's flames, while others continue his legacy through the Mycenae Empire's campaigns under leaders like the Great Marshal of Hell.
Beyond the main continuity, alternate versions appear in media like *Super Robot Wars* games, where he serves as the Emperor of Darkness's second-in-command or a final boss. In these scenarios, he develops mutual respect with adversaries like Tetsuya Tsurugi, who acknowledges him as a heroic figure for Mycenae upon his death.
