Description
Kaie Taniya was born on April 7 in the Republic of San Magnolia. A member of the Colorata minority, she was forcibly relocated to the Eighty-Sixth Sector internment camps during her youth. Her specific ethnic background as an Orienta—a rarer racial group within the sector—faced discrimination from both the dominant Alba population and fellow Eighty-Six internees.

She served four years as a Processor in the Republic's military before transfer to the elite Spearhead Squadron. There, she held the rank of Second Lieutenant and commanded the Fourth Platoon. At 18 during the series events, she was Spearhead's oldest member and exhibited a mature worldview shaped by her camp experiences and squadmates' accounts of discrimination, like Theo's former captain and Anju's struggles. She notably rejected broad generalizations about either the Alba or the Eighty-Six, acknowledging moral complexity in both groups.

Her personality blended approachable leadership with a boyish, cheerful demeanor. She frequently engaged in lighthearted teasing, calling out Shin's claim of illiteracy and aggressively mocking Kurena about her crush on Shin. She also maintained direct, if occasionally blunt, communication with their handler Vladilena Milizé.

Her military service ended during a combat sortie when her immobilized Juggernaut was crushed by a heavily armored Legion Löwe unit, killing her instantly. This made her the Spearhead Squadron's fourth casualty and the first under Vladilena's command. The impact destroyed her body, though the Legion later recovered her severed head.

Following her death, her neural patterns were assimilated into the Legion's network as part of their "Black Sheep" units, machines incorporating human brain matter to replicate tactical behaviors. In this form, retaining her physical likeness, she appeared before Shin and others. During the Republic's Northern Region Reclamation Operation, her Black Sheep manifestation unwittingly assisted Shin in combat.

Her Spearhead Squadron Personal Name was "Kirschblüte" (German for "cherry blossom"), and her Personal Mark was a cherry blossom symbol. This imagery reflected her view of life's transient yet beautiful nature, reinforced by her last words expressing a desire to live. Her internment identification number was E316-00383.
