Description
Shōrei Nōzen, known as Rei, was the elder brother of Shinei Nouzen, ten years his senior. He possessed red hair, dark eyes, and a tall, bespectacled appearance, contrasting with his brother. His internment identification number was E022-23082. Rei and his family originally lived in the Republic of San Magnolia's First Sector. Following the outbreak of war with the Giadian Empire, discriminatory policies targeting their Colorata heritage led to their forced relocation to an internment camp.

After both parents enlisted in the Republic's military under false promises of restored citizenship, Rei became responsible for Shinei. Their father died in combat. Following their mother's death, Rei received his own conscription notice, revealing the Republic's deception. Overwhelmed by grief and stress, Rei violently attacked Shinei, nearly strangling him before an Adularia priest caretaker intervened. This incident left Shinei with a permanent neck scar and fractured their relationship. Rei departed for the Eastern Front without reconciliation or apology.

During deployment, Rei rescued Vladilena Milizé, then a child, after her reconnaissance helicopter crashed in Legion territory, transporting her to safety. He served as a Processor for four years before being killed in action during winter 2143. Post-mortem, his neural patterns were assimilated into the Legion's network, transforming him into a Shepherd unit codenamed "Dullahan," referencing the headless skeletal knight emblem he adopted from Shinei's childhood picture book.

Assimilation significantly distorted Rei's personality. While retaining a desire to protect Shinei, this manifested as an obsessive intent to integrate him into the Legion for eternal coexistence. Rei displayed arrogance, cruelty, and cold efficiency in battle, referring to former comrades as "insects" and showing no remorse for eliminating fellow Legion units. He actively pursued Shinei, leveraging their familial Maika clan telepathic link. This connection allowed Rei to project the voices of the dead, intensifying psychological warfare against his brother.

Rei's legacy persisted through Shinei, who inherited the skeletal knight emblem but modified it, replacing the sword with a shovel to symbolize his commitment to burying fallen comrades. The unresolved trauma from their fractured relationship and Rei's assimilation continued to influence Shinei's psychological state long after Rei's physical demise.
