Description
Shōrei Nouzen, known as Rei, is the elder brother of Shinei Nouzen, ten years his senior. He exhibits inverse physical traits to Shinei: long blood-red hair, jet-black eyes, a tall frame, and the use of glasses. Rei initially appears generally friendly and reliable, but harbors a capacity for impulsive aggression under extreme duress. This manifested when, devastated by his parents' deaths and facing imminent conscription, he nearly strangled Shinei in a rage, leaving a permanent scar before departing for military service without reconciliation.

Following the war's outbreak, Rei and his family were forcibly relocated to the 86th Sector internment camp. His father enlisted first, perishing in combat, followed by his mother. Left in an Adularia priest's care, Rei learned of his mother's death soon after, triggering his psychological breakdown and attack on Shinei. Serving as a Processor on the Eastern Front, Rei encountered the young Vladilena Milizé after her reconnaissance helicopter was downed. Demonstrating protective instincts, he rescued her from Legion forces and secured her return behind the Gran Mur wall.

Four years post-conscription, Rei was killed in action. His neural patterns were assimilated by the Legion, transforming him into the Shepherd designated "Dullahan." This name and emblem – a headless knight – referenced Shinei's favorite childhood story. As a Shepherd, his personality distorted into arrogance and cruelty. He displayed tactical efficiency, dismissed enemies as "insects," and discarded fellow Legion units callously. Yet, a twisted core desire to protect Shinei endured: he sought to assimilate Shinei into the Legion, viewing this forced eternal togetherness as salvation.

Rei retained the hereditary Maika clan telepathy, enabling him to perceive relatives' thoughts, including Shinei's, which facilitated haunting Shinei's consciousness. His actions culminated in a final confrontation with Spearhead Squadron, where Shinei faced him directly. In his last moments before permanent deletion, Rei experienced fleeting clarity and remorse, acknowledging his failures as a brother. Shinei later adopted the "Dullahan" callsign and emblem, modifying it with a shovel replacing the sword, symbolizing their complex legacy.
