TV-Series
Description
Dr. Amano leads the Amano Peace Science Laboratory, dedicated to creating peace-promoting machines. His inventions consistently malfunction or fail, causing financial hardship and public ridicule. He sold ancestral mountain lands to fund the lab but neglected inheritance taxes, resulting in ongoing financial instability and tax-related paranoia.
He lives with his grandchildren, Kenta and Haruka, while their parents work abroad. His eccentric behavior and botched experiments frequently disrupt the neighborhood, attracting regular police visits. Inspector Satsuda initially suspected him of bank robbery, though this was later disproven.
Despite setbacks, Dr. Amano persists in refining his creations. His laboratory becomes central to the Space Police Force when they repurpose his rescue vehicles—Fire Jet, Fire Shuttle, and ambulances—to host their energy-based forms. He maintains a professional relationship with Dr. Yoshiko Kunieda, whose ambulance hosts Guard Rescue, and occasionally collaborates with Inspector Satsuda after he learns of the Space Police's mission.
His well-intentioned inventions often create chaos, like an android body later inhabited by Space Police commander Fighbird. This android complicates daily life, struggling with human social norms. Dr. Amano participates in community events, including a Christmas celebration where he shared wine with colleagues.
His idealism contrasts sharply with the villainous Dr. Jango, highlighting their opposing uses of technology: Jango seeks destruction while Dr. Amano aims to protect humanity, however imperfectly. His laboratory also provides refuge for reformed thieves Ippei and Goro, who join his rescue team after abandoning crime.
