Description
Bowie Obochiyama, also known as Diamond Boy, is a child prodigy duelist and the son of an immensely wealthy family ruling southern Chiba, its fortune surpassing 100 trillion yen from oil and vast land holdings. His family’s company eventually went bankrupt after spending an estimated $2 trillion on a failed rocket resort project, rumored to have been sabotaged by risotto mixed into the plans.
He is a young boy with spiky red hair, light green eyes, and distinctive red eyebrows. He typically wears an unbuttoned yellow suit jacket over a white shirt adorned with colored triangles, a blue bowtie, yellow shorts, black tights, and dark brown shoes paired with long light brown socks. In an alternate reality, his appearance reversed, featuring bushy eyebrows, messy hair, and an incomplete school uniform.
Initially cocky, cheerful, and somewhat spoiled by his immense wealth, he often looked down on others yet secretly envied normal life. He held deep respect for Prince Kaiser, a childhood acquaintance to whom he lost many duels. As the youngest member of the elite duelist team D4, his repeated losses led to him being underestimated by his peers and fueled significant self-doubt. Expelled from D4 after a trial duel loss to Karen, he underwent substantial personal growth, becoming more open-minded and learning to appreciate ordinary pleasures like snacking with friends. He began valuing dueling for fun rather than victory. Despite his family’s financial collapse, debt collectors pursued him minimally due to his minor status and fears of bad publicity.
His story opens as a member of D4, Maihama Academy’s strongest duelist team, where he was frequently defeated and perceived as its weakest link. He was the first D4 member to duel Win Kirifuda, losing twice to him and suffering further defeats, including one due to cheating by gang members. His association with Win’s group led to his expulsion after Karen defeated him using her new trump card, Chaosmantra. He subsequently joined Win Kirifuda’s Duema Saikou Club, also known as Psycho Club, where he became less active and gained weight from snacking but found genuine joy in dueling and friendship. He participated in the "Duel Wars" tournament under limited-rarity rules, demonstrating growth by defeating Fargo and showing resilience. After his family’s bankruptcy, his motivation shifted toward restoring their fortune through his own efforts, independent of wealth.
In the manga continuity, he challenges Win Kirifuda early after being interrupted at a tournament but is not expelled from D4, as only official duels at the school coliseum affect membership. He loses to Win despite a strategy focused on rapid machine creature summons.
As a duelist, he uses a Light Civilization deck centered on the Supercar Dragon and Mecha Del Dinero machine races. His main card is Dran-Gorgini, which shields allies from destruction, and his strategy often involves building a wide board of machine creatures to overwhelm opponents. He later incorporates Dark Civilization cards and Mecha Angel Command cards into his tactics, adopting Tomikou King Gorgini En Gels as a new ace.
His key relationships include deep respect for Prince Kaiser, a childhood rival. After leaving D4, he develops friendships with Karen, Win Kirifuda, and other Duema Saikou Club members. He also shares a connection with Gen-san, confiding in him about his struggles in D4.
