Michela, originally named Nozomi Mine, is the Italian localization of a character switched at birth by nurse Michiko Nohara due to a personal grudge against the affluent Koda family. Raised by the impoverished Mine family, who run a food stall in the slums, she believes Shinsuke and Shizuko Mine are her true parents. Her biological parents are Daijiro and Sumiyo Koda, though she remains unaware of this. Michela’s upbringing forges her resilience and work ethic, as she assists with the family stall. There, she encounters Miki Koda, her biological counterpart raised in wealth. Miki bullies Michela over her socioeconomic status, fueling a competitive rivalry as both strive for musical success. A pivotal Yakuza attack leaves Shinsuke Mine fatally injured. Michela intensifies her singing efforts to fund his medical care, but his death devastates her.
