Description
Chang Changku, designated Cyborg 006, originates from China. His background varies: in the 2001 anime, he operated a restaurant but accidentally burned it down during a failed fire-breathing demonstration, losing everything; captured by Black Ghost agents after fainting from despair. In the manga and graphic novel, he was an impoverished pig farmer facing ruin when his livestock escaped and taxes overwhelmed him; he attempted suicide by hanging before Black Ghost intervened, cutting the rope and taking him captive. The graphic novel adds his restaurant closure led to his wife leaving him, deepening his despair.

Physically, Chang is consistently short and rotund with a large belly, a prominent nose, and a thin, curly mustache. His eyes are typically depicted in a cartoonish "3" shape, though the graphic novel shows them realistically closed. He usually wears a standard red, double-breasted cyborg uniform with padded shoulders, black armbands, and a belt holstering a multi-mode gun. In the OVA "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR," he wears a deep blue variant with a red scarf, while the graphic novel features a modernized red-and-black camouflaging bodysuit, later adding a yellow scarf.

Chang's personality blends joviality and seriousness. He serves as primary morale and comic relief, often alongside Cyborg 002 (Great Britain), sharing a love-hate dynamic involving mutual teasing but deep trust. His culinary passion defines him; he constantly thinks about food, cooks for the team, and improvises meals from unconventional sources like cave bats. He demonstrates strict focus when teaching cooking skills, as seen instructing all teammates except Jet in "The Story of a Struggling Restaurant." The GOD'S WAR OVA reveals a gluttonous side, consuming large food quantities. The graphic novel explores darker layers, including suicidal tendencies and marital struggles, while emphasizing his close bond with Cyborg 007, who supports him emotionally and physically during recovery. A recurring comedic gag involves him accidentally setting teammates on fire across multiple series and OVAs.

His primary ability is breathing fire up to 3,000 degrees Celsius, melting solid rock and enabling tunneling for evasion or attack. In GOD'S WAR, his powers enhance to pyrokinesis, shaping flames into constructs like a dragon. His culinary expertise extends beyond cooking to resourceful ingredient sourcing and business acumen, leading him to open successful restaurants post-liberation, sometimes employing teammates like Great Britain.

Following the cyborgs' escape from Black Ghost, Chang typically establishes a new restaurant. In the manga and anime, he resumes cooking professionally, reflecting resilience and a return to normalcy. The graphic novel details his injury during the escape and subsequent recovery in a healing tank, highlighting his dependence on teammates during vulnerability. His story consistently concludes with him finding purpose through cuisine and camaraderie, symbolizing redemption from his pre-cyborg despair.
