Description
Albert Heinrich, designated Cyborg 004, originated in Cold War-era East Germany. He attempted to smuggle his fiancée, Hilda, across the Berlin Wall to escape oppression. Their plan failed when border guards discovered Albert's forged identification, triggering a chase that ended in a truck crash. Hilda sustained fatal injuries and died in Albert's arms. Severely injured himself, Albert was captured by the Black Ghost organization under false pretenses of medical aid.
Due to extensive crash damage, Black Ghost scientists, including Dr. Gilmore, replaced most of Albert's body with cybernetic weaponry. His organic components were reduced primarily to his brain and spinal cord, making him the most mechanically augmented of the nine cyborgs. His right hand concealed a machine gun, his left hand housed an electromagnetic cutting knife, and his legs contained missile launchers. Initial weapon use caused him significant physical pain. Combined with grief over Hilda's death, this led to severe psychological distress and suicidal tendencies.
Technical flaws in the early cyborg prototypes resulted in Albert and three others being placed in cryogenic sleep for approximately forty years. Upon awakening, he struggled with his identity as a "living weapon," feeling detached from his humanity. Interactions with newly created cyborgs, particularly Joe Shimamura (009), provided emotional stability. He developed a brotherly rapport with Joe, often offering guidance during moments of doubt. In the OVA "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR," Albert's capabilities were enhanced when Ivan Whisky (001) unlocked latent psychic abilities within the cyborg team. Albert gained telekinetic control over his machine gun bullets, allowing them to home in on targets and explode upon impact.
