Description
Geronimo Junior, known as Cyborg 005, is a Native American from the southwestern United States. Systemic racism and prolonged heritage-based unemployment denied him stable work or a permanent home, forcing a nomadic existence while he sought opportunities to support his people. This vulnerability left him open to deception by Black Ghost operatives, who lured him with false promises of distant employment. He once rejected an offensive sideshow offer stereotyping Native culture, punching the recruiter. Overhearing this, Black Ghost agents targeted him. He accepted their fraudulent offer, unaware it led to abduction and transformation into a cyborg soldier.
Black Ghost enhanced his natural strength and endurance through extensive cybernetic modifications, making him the strongest member of the 00 Cyborg team. Cybernetics rebuilt his body with near-indestructible armored skin, augmented musculature, and reinforced skeleton, enabling feats like lifting massive boulders. These enhancements synergized with his innate capabilities, granting immediate mastery without extensive training. Beyond mechanics, he maintained a deep cultural connection, manifesting as a nature-based empathic sense detecting ecological disturbances. Later, in the "Conclusion: GOD'S WAR" arc, Cyborg 001 unlocked his latent psychic potential, further amplifying his physical power.
He possesses a quiet, reserved, and introspective personality, often expressing himself through actions. Despite his imposing physique and role as the team's physical powerhouse, he exhibits a gentle, noble disposition prioritizing peace and revering all life, contrasting with his grim resolve in necessary battles. After Black Ghost's initial defeat, he attempted to leave his cyborg identity behind, finding temporary peace working on a farm tending crops and livestock. Global threats interrupted this solitude, compelling his return. This involved confronting personal tragedies, including battling his childhood friend Cochise, forcibly transformed into an antagonistic cyborg under Black Ghost remnant mind control. Forced to kill Cochise to end his suffering, this event highlighted the enduring personal costs of his existence.
His cybernetic modifications effectively halted aging, preserving him at his transformation age indefinitely. This agelessness, combined with distinctive features—tall stature, tribal facial markings, short mohawk hairstyle, and tan skin—hindered attempts to live anonymously among humans. His red uniform and yellow scarf became iconic symbols of his team role. While consistently loyal to fellow cyborgs and willing to defend innocents, he remained conflicted about his identity as a weapon, embodying the tension between his desire for tranquility and the responsibility thrust upon him by his abilities.
