Description
Following Professor Hamaguchi's death during the conflict against the Boazanian invaders, his former student, Professor Sakunji, assumed command at Camp Big Falcon. This appointment came after General Oka's temporary leadership proved inadequate for managing both military operations and the camp. Trained as Hamaguchi's successor, Sakunji immediately implemented a radically different leadership style. His rigorous training pushed the Voltes team pilots beyond previous limits, employing dangerous drills like the Spin Fly Formation that exposed them to extreme centrifugal forces. In one instance, he directly risked the youngest member, Hiyoshi, by ordering speeds exceeding safe capabilities.

When performance fell short of his expectations, Sakunji confiscated the team's personal belongings as distractions, an action culminating in the disposal of Kenichi's sharpshooting medal. This provoked open rebellion; the entire team abandoned their posts, defying Sakunji's orders to seek General Oka's return. A pivotal shift occurred during an attack by the Beast Fighter Zaizarusu. With the team incapacitated and unable to combine Voltes V, Sakunji provided critical tactical guidance for their escape. He explicitly assured them he would never order excessively risky maneuvers, prioritizing their safety. This intervention fostered mutual trust, enabling the team to follow his instructions and achieve victory. Subsequently, their relationship improved significantly, marked by enhanced combat effectiveness and Sakunji's increased respect for their capabilities.

Beyond leadership, Sakunji made key technical contributions to Voltes V. He analyzed the indestructible Maxingal alloy used in later Beast Fighters and devised the Choudenji Ball weapon, exploiting electromagnetic energy to weaken the alloy by directing lightning strikes onto Voltes V's sword. He implemented critical design upgrades delivered by a mysterious red eagle aircraft and developed countermeasures like the "Ultra Magucon" device to protect the Volt-in sequence. Throughout the conflict, Sakunji prioritized Earth's defense and civilian safety during Beast Fighter attacks, his stern demeanor masking a firm philosophical commitment to planetary protection.
