Description
Chivas Scotch, localized as Shibas Scotch in English releases to avoid trademark conflicts, operates as a sorcerer and bounty hunter on the Spooner Continent. His original Japanese name reflects the series' alcohol-themed naming conventions. He leads a small mercenary group specializing in eliminating monsters and magical threats, distinct from the noble Sorcerer Hunters organization.

Chivas wields significant magical power, including destructive spells and a crystalline transformation known as his "Super Mode," granting enhanced strength at the cost of extreme physical fragility. A crucial element of his magic involves transferring his consciousness into other bodies, primarily his servant Gin Fizz, following physical destruction. This body-sharing becomes a recurring plot device throughout the series.

He openly embraces an amoral and self-serving personality, proudly identifying as a "rotten wretch" and rejecting heroism. Hedonism drives him to frequent gambling, heavy drinking, and womanizing, leading to chronic financial irresponsibility and substantial debts owed to a creditor named Million Dollar. These debts sometimes force his companions into exploitative situations to raise funds. Despite his generally abhorrent conduct, he maintains one stated principle: while willing to lie, cheat, or steal, he claims he would never betray his direct subordinates.

Chivas exerts authoritarian control over his companions, treating Gin Fizz and the werewolf Kiss as enslaved subordinates marked by collars. He commands immediate compliance, often assigning morally questionable tasks, and subjects Gin Fizz to physical and psychological abuse, including forcible groping when inhabiting her body. His swordsman companion, Gemini, harbors unreciprocated romantic feelings, which Chivas rejects with hostility and physical retaliation. Kiss, however, displays unwavering loyalty despite his treatment, rationalizing her devotion through his villainous persona.

Narratively, Chivas functions as an anti-hero or villain protagonist. His actions typically serve selfish motives, though circumstances occasionally align his goals with confronting broader threats like the eldritch entity Icarus or the manipulative Count Cuttlefish. His cynical worldview remains consistent, lacking a significant redemption arc across official media. Character development focuses on his pragmatic, albeit twisted, relationships with his team and his repeated reliance on body-transference magic to survive.
