Description
Akira Akebono, grandson of the renowned Battle Robot creator Professor Hajime Akebono, dreams of becoming the greatest commander and winning the Titan Belt, the Battle Robot Tournament's highest honor. He launches his quest by forming Team Akira. Initially commanding the Animal Unit robots—Bulion the lion, Eaglearrow the eagle, and Drimorg the mole—he later receives two powerful robots from his grandfather: the small knight Ryugu and the dragon Daigu. Utilizing the Cluster System, Ryugu and Daigu combine into the formidable Daigunder. Akira and Ryugu's early interactions are fraught with stubborn conflict, both strong-willed and resistant to cooperation. Their bond transforms into a deep partnership only after Akira risks himself to protect Ryugu, forging them into trusted allies.

Akira consistently demonstrates courage and selflessness, frequently intervening in battles to shield his robots from harm, prioritizing their safety above his own. This dedication peaks when he risks his life to save Daigunder, even as the robot attacks him under external control. His leadership extends beyond combat, showing genuine care for his team members' well-being. Team Akira expands as Professor Hajime provides additional robots: the Dino Unit (Bonerex, Despector, and Trihorn) and later, DragonFlame and DragonFreezer, who defect from the antagonist DragoBurst. The team operates from the Dailand base and travels aboard the Daishuttle, supported by manager Haruka Hoshi, who handles robot maintenance and tuning. While their working relationship involves occasional disagreements, it remains functional.

Akira faces persistent opposition from Ginzan, a Battle Robot serving the antagonistic Professor Maelstrom, who repeatedly targets Daigunder for destruction. The conflict intensifies when Akira uncovers DragoBurst's plan to annihilate humanity and establish a robot utopia. This forces a final confrontation where Akira must leverage his expanded team and their fusion capabilities to thwart DragoBurst's ambitions. Throughout this journey, Akira matures from a determined novice into a respected commander, learning to navigate challenges, forge alliances, and uphold his principles against formidable adversaries.
