TV-Series
Description
Kazuma Satō was a Japanese shut-in NEET teenager who avoided school to play video games after witnessing his childhood friend with an upperclassman. His isolation worsened following an embarrassing incident where he scared away a girl offering support. While returning home with a game, he died attempting to save a classmate from what he mistakenly believed was a speeding truck—later revealed as a slow-moving tractor—succumbing to acute stress reaction.

In the afterlife, he encountered the water goddess Aqua, who offered reincarnation options. Provoked by her mockery of his death, he chose Aqua herself as his "cheat item" for transport to a fantasy world threatened by a Devil King. Arriving in the beginner town Axel, he discovered Aqua couldn't return to heaven until the Devil King was defeated. Financial constraints forced them into menial labor, including filling craters caused by explosive magic.

Registering as an adventurer, Kazuma displayed average physical and magical stats except for exceptionally high intelligence and luck. His initial cheap sword and green tracksuit were later replaced by an adventurer's outfit with a gold-trimmed green mantle and the short katana Chunchunmaru. He formed a party with Aqua, later recruiting Megumin, a Crimson Demon mage specializing solely in Explosion magic, and Darkness, a crusader with extreme masochistic tendencies. Despite constant complaints about their incompetence and frequent debts, he remained their de facto leader due to strategic adaptability.

Personality-wise, Kazuma maintained cynical, sarcastic, and blunt traits, often insulting Aqua's uselessness or Darkness's masochism. He exhibited laziness when financially secure but worked diligently when poor. Pragmatic and cowardly in combat, he employed underhanded tactics like blinding enemies with dirt or using the "Steal" skill to disarm foes—a skill that frequently resulted in accidentally taking female characters' underwear due to his perverted nature. He self-identified as a "gender equality advocate," retaliating against perceived offenses regardless of gender, yet occasionally showed kindness to children and those treating him respectfully.

His romantic inclinations involved a sister complex and attraction to busty women, though he emotionally connected to individuals displaying genuine kindness. After Megumin confessed her feelings, they entered a relationship described as "more than friends, less than lovers," creating tension with Darkness, who also developed feelings. He formed a close platonic bond with Princess Iris, who addressed him as "Big Brother," triggering protective instincts.

Abilities centered on versatility from his Adventurer class, allowing him to learn basic skills across disciplines:
- Thief skills like **Steal** (success rate boosted by luck), **Bind**, and **Lurk**
- Basic elemental magic (**Create Water**, **Freeze**, **Tinder**), combined creatively to hinder enemies
- **Teleport** with three location markers, including Eris's afterlife room
- **Snipe** for precision archery, accuracy enhanced by luck
- **Drain Touch** for absorbing HP/MP, ineffective against high-vitality targets
His combat style relied on exploiting enemy weaknesses, trap-setting, and retreating (**Flee**) when overwhelmed.

Character development emerged through pivotal experiences:
- During season one, he tearfully chose to return to his party after a temporary death, despite earlier complaints about their burdensome presence.
- He was arrested for treason after leading Axel's defense against the Destroyer, though charges stemmed from collateral damage to a noble's estate.
- In *Legend of Crimson*, he preserved Megumin's Explosion magic despite its impracticality, recognizing her passion.
- Volume 6 saw him exiled after failing to capture the "Chivalrous Thief" (goddess Eris in disguise), later assisting her in stealing the Sacred Armor Aigis.
- When Aqua confronted the Devil King alone in volume 15, Kazuma sacrificed his accumulated levels and equipment to rescue her, grinding his stats back in the "World's Largest Dungeon" with allies Wiz and Vanir.
- After defeating the Devil King, he declined returning to Japan, opting to remain with his party.

Throughout the series, Kazuma evolved from a self-interested NEET into a reluctantly responsible leader, demonstrating loyalty during crises while maintaining his irreverent, pragmatic approach.
