Description
Maria Grace Fleed is the younger sister of Duke Fleed, crown prince of the planet Fleed. When the Vegan Empire attacked their homeworld, she was sent off-world with a guardian for her protection. Her memories were suppressed to grant her a peaceful life, and she coincidentally came to live on Earth, the same planet as her brother.
Maria has long, silky hair, an attractive complexion, and is notably tall for her age of fourteen, comparable in height to the seventeen-year-old Koji Kabuto.
She initially lived a carefree life like other Earth girls her age. After her guardian was killed in a crossfire between Grendizer and a Vegan beast, his dying words revealed her true identity as a Fleed princess. This transformed her personality, making her vengeful and ruthless toward her enemies. Upon learning her brother was alive, she grew calmer and developed a deeper appreciation for Earth, as well as a romantic attraction to Koji Kabuto.
Maria proves to be a skilled pilot, capable of stealing and operating a Vegan Empire UFO with ease. These abilities led to her recruitment in the fight against the Vegan Empire, where she piloted the Drill Spazer robot.
In the Gosaku Ōta manga, her history remains consistent: raised apart from Duke, she reunites with him on Earth following her guardian’s death.
A different continuity is presented in the "Grendizer Giga" manga, where Maria is revealed to be an android named Maria Flora, a Super Female Android created to protect Duke Fleed. She implanted false memories and the identity of Daisuke Uryu in him. She can restore his memories by wrapping her hair around his head, a method likened to Medusa. In this version, she remotely pilots the Grendizer Giga when Duke is incapacitated and can summon a powerful female robot named Florian Beet for combat. After battles, she occasionally reseals Duke’s memories.
