Description
Caponero commands the Galveston Empire's military as Supreme Commander, directly overseeing operations and issuing orders in his name while technically answering to Emperor Corsair. He sports blue skin, red eyes, white hair, and a beard, common among Galveston's humanoids. His uniform features dark sleeveless clothing with a dark green collar, tubes on his chest, black shoulder pads, and a black chest plate equipped with a screen.

Driven by relentless ambition, Caponero constantly schemes to overthrow Emperor Corsair and seize the throne. He prioritizes military aggression over diplomacy, rejecting peaceful talks with Earth's explorers in favor of relentless attacks. This warmongering stems from personal jingoism, ignoring Galveston's environmental collapse from solar radiation and a failing Van Allen belt. He reacts with intense frustration to subordinates' failures against Earth's forces and their super robot, Dairugger. Despite glorifying war, Caponero avoids personal combat, fleeing confrontation and abandoning his empire during crises. His loyalty to Corsair is strong but conditional, serving his own power-seeking agenda.

Caponero actively undermines Socrat Telesu, a commander advocating peace with Earth. He empowers militaristic underlings to disobey Telesu and manipulates Corsair to remove Telesu from command, obstructing peace efforts even as Telesu argues it could secure a new homeworld faster. Caponero selects commanders for their aggression; they frequently disobey strategy for personal glory, creating exploitable weaknesses. His tactics include spitefully blowing up potentially habitable planets to deny them to Earth, rejecting Earth's offers to cede them. This strategy worsens resource shortages and fuels civilian unrest.

As Earth's counterinvasion reaches Galveston's sector, Caponero concentrates defenses but fails to stop Dairugger's advance. Facing inevitable defeat, he urges Corsair to flee with the elite to a ceded planet, abandoning billions of civilians. When Corsair refuses, Caponero deserts in a Battle Attacker. Dairugger annihilates his craft mid-escape, killing him shortly before Corsair's own death and Galveston's destruction, nullifying his ambitions. Telesu, imprisoned and marginalized by Caponero, leads the evacuation efforts, contrasting Caponero's betrayal with sacrifice.

His name echoes the notorious crime boss Al Capone, reflecting his ruthless, power-hungry nature. Caponero embodies hypocrisy: demanding unwavering loyalty while fostering betrayal among subordinates and glorifying war while fleeing combat in cowardice.
