TV-Series
Description
Mega-Octane commands the Decepticon Commandos with a cool-headed, militaristic demeanor. He directs his troops with stoic precision, viewing them as extensions of his own body. While Scourge nominally leads the Decepticon faction, Mega-Octane acts as its stabilizing force, frequently managing Scourge's volatile temper to preserve cohesion. He possesses a noted personal idiosyncrasy: an insistence on being first to use bathing facilities.
Originally an Autobot protoform, Mega-Octane crashed on Earth in mid-20th century America within a spacecraft. Archaeologist Doctor Onishi discovered the ship, and Megatron later acquired this knowledge through mental scans. Megatron repurposed the six Autobot protoforms at a military base by infusing them with his own spark energy; Mega-Octane was the first reformatted into a Decepticon. This process erased their Autobot origins, instilling loyalty to Megatron.
On missions, Mega-Octane often strategized Decepticon operations. He orchestrated their initial combined formation into Ruination at Sherman Dam, viewing gestalt control as compensation for yielding ground command to Scourge. Subsequent missions involved guarding volcanic excavations, space-based tracking attempts, and energy theft operations, often ending in failure due to Autobot interference or friction with the Predacons. He once devised a deception campaign where the Decepticons feigned Autobot alignment to infiltrate their base, which unraveled when Scourge lost patience.
Mega-Octane participated in critical campaigns involving Fortress Maximus, advising Scourge during attempts to control the battle station via Cerebros and later Koji. After Scourge betrayed Galvatron, the Decepticon leader forcibly reprogrammed Mega-Octane and the Commandos for absolute loyalty, placing them under Sky-Byte's command. Galvatron eventually trapped them within the Global Space Bridge tunnel and flooded it with lava, though they survived. Following Galvatron's defeat, authorities imprisoned them on an asteroid colony. In Japanese continuity, their capture led to transport to a future Cybertron.
Beyond the Robots in Disguise narrative, Mega-Octane appears among Unicron's forces during the Universe conflict. A separate continuity identifies him as originating from Nyon and being "Constructed Cold," initially serving in Cybertron's Elite Guard before joining a mercenary guild.
A triple-changer, his alternate modes include a flatbed truck with a trailer equipped with twin-barreled cannons. In this configuration, his ramp doubles as a shield, and his rifle stores within the cannon assembly. He forms the torso component of the combined entity Ruination, utilizing Scramble City-style connection mechanics. Toy releases varied between Takara and Hasbro, featuring differences in color schemes, decals, and accessory dimensions. Later redecoes featured urban and desert camouflage patterns.
