Description
Ruination emerges when the Decepticon Commandos—Mega-Octane, Armorhide, Movor, Rollbar, and Ro-Tor—combine into a singular combat intelligence. During this fusion, Armorhide, Movor, Rollbar, and Ro-Tor surrender autonomy to leader Mega-Octane, creating a tactically superior and deadlier gestalt entity.
This combiner adapts to combat scenarios through limb reconfiguration. In Flight Mission mode, Ro-Tor and Movor occupy arm sockets, activating integrated anti-grav units for aerial capability. For Land Mission mode, Armorhide and Rollbar become arms, boosting ground-based power and stability.
Within the *Robots in Disguise* anime continuity, Ruination debuted during Decepticon sabotage at Sherman Dam. After subduing the Autobot Brothers, Scourge commanded the combiner’s formation to counter Team Bullet Train’s Rail Racer. Despite initial shock advantage, Ruination retreated when Autobot Brothers distracted it, enabling Rail Racer’s assault. Subsequent engagements included volcanic destruction during a Spychanger battle on Montrose Island before Optimus Prime restrained it; a foiled defection ruse ending in retreat under Optimus’ firepower; and destruction by Optimus Prime’s single blast while intercepting O-Parts transport. Ruination suffered dismantling by Ultra Magnus, witnessed Omega Prime’s first combination, clashed with Rail Racer in cities, and failed to seize Fortress Maximus against its defenses.
Reprogrammed by Galvatron post-Megatron’s rebirth, Ruination assaulted the Autobot base and pursued Optimus Prime through a lava-flooded space bridge tunnel. Surviving the lava, it remained loyal until final defeat, leading to the Commandos’ imprisonment on an asteroid colony.
In Japanese *Unite Warriors/Legends* continuities, Unicron freed and upgraded the Combatrons (Commandos) into enhanced bodies. They combined as Ruination to attack Unicron upon discovering his plan to erase them. Grand Scourge (impersonating Scourge) deceived and struck Ruination, but Scourge’s arrival enabled recovery. Ruination severed Unicron’s head from Cybertron, allowing combiners to defeat him and preserve their timeline. Later, Ruination formed during an assault on Neo Brave Maximus to rescue Devil Gigatron, witnessing Scourge’s reversion to a protoform after evil-programming purification. The Combatrons continued traveling together.
A *Universe* comic iteration—Minion of Unicron Ruination—was abducted from Viron 704.31 Epsilon to serve Megazarak. This variant killed an Emissary to incapacitate Brave Maximus before engaging Autobot and Maximal forces.
Physically, Ruination towers with military vehicle aesthetics. Its design derives from a redeco and slight retool of Generation 1 Combaticon molds. Toy releases include original *Robots in Disguise* individual figures and multi-packs, a Wal-Mart exclusive urban camouflage redeco, and a *Universe* desert camouflage redeco, all reflecting limb-swapping mechanics and combiner kibble.
