Description
Originally the leader of an Autobot expedition dispatched to Earth to reactivate Fortress Maximus, Scourge possessed the unique ability to detect vital O-Parts. His team's spacecraft malfunctioned and crashed on Earth in the mid-20th century, entombing the crew in protoform stasis pods for decades. Megatron unearthed these protoforms in the early 21st century, infusing them with his spark energy to corrupt them into Decepticons. During the final protoform's scanning process, Optimus Prime intervened to save a human driver, Kelly. This caused the protoform to simultaneously scan Prime, a fuel tanker truck, and Kelly. Combined with Megatron's spark energy, this fusion created Scourge as a dark duplicate of Optimus Prime, bearing a composite biosignature derived from all three scanned entities.
Emerging as Megatron's second-in-command, Scourge led the newly formed, militarily superior Decepticon Commandos. He retained all of Optimus Prime's combat skills and strategic acumen but exhibited none of his compassion. His personality was defined by ruthless ambition and a fierce independent streak; he openly aspired to overthrow Megatron and seize command, particularly resenting missions he deemed beneath him. Scourge possessed a volatile temper, making him fearless yet impatient, petulant, and easily provoked. This rage often unnerved subordinates and occasionally compromised missions.
Scourge demonstrated tactical prowess in assaults on critical infrastructure like Sherman Dam and power plants. He sabotaged the Autobots' Global Space Bridge to disrupt their mobility and later orchestrated ambushes using stolen O-Parts as bait. His combat capabilities included deploying a trailer-mounted combat deck for missile barrages and wielding the "Sword of Fury" broadsword. However, his impulsiveness caused setbacks, like prematurely revealing a deception plan during a false defection when Optimus Prime urged him to embrace latent Autobot nature.
A pivotal development occurred when exposure to Fortress Maximus's energies in ruins beneath Metro City reawakened Scourge's original mission, now twisted by Megatron's corruption. His goal shifted to controlling Fortress Maximus to conquer the galaxy. Exploiting his O-Parts detection ability and his human-DNA-containing biosignature, he briefly seized control of the battle station. In decisive betrayal, he commanded Fortress Maximus to destroy Megatron (now Galvatron), but human children overrode his control. Galvatron then brutally suppressed Scourge's free will, rendering him and the Commandos utterly subservient. Their enforced loyalty persisted even after Galvatron attempted to execute them with molten lava, lasting until their final defeat and imprisonment by Omega Prime and Fortress Maximus.
