Description
Wedge (known as Build Boy in Japanese continuity) commands the Autobot Build Team as their chief architect and designer. His critical mission involves building and maintaining Earth's subterranean Global Space Bridge network, frequently working underground in prolonged isolation from other Autobot forces. Despite his engineering focus, he actively seeks combat to prove his warrior's worth, displaying impulsive behavior and gung-ho enthusiasm that often leads him to hurtle recklessly into battle. This eagerness has caused setbacks, like his capture by Sky-Byte during a Predacon diamond heist, forcing teammate Heavy Load to negotiate his release. Optimus Prime recognizes his potential as a capable warrior despite these tendencies.

Wedge's leadership extends to the combined form Landfill (Build King in Japanese continuity), where his consciousness fully controls the gestalt entity formed by merging the entire Build Team. The other members surrender their autonomy as Wedge directs their combined power. Landfill possesses a unique modular configuration: any of the three limb components—Grimlock (excavator), Heavy Load (dump truck), or Hightower (crane truck)—can form the arms, with the remaining two becoming legs. Each configuration offers distinct tactical advantages: Grimlock arms provide balanced offense/defense (Hurricane Mode), Heavy Load arms maximize firepower (Typhoon Mode), and Hightower arms specialize in close-quarters combat (Cyclone Mode). Weapons integrate from individual components, such as Heavy Load's dump claw or Hightower's crane cannon, mounting on Landfill's back or forming handheld armaments.

Key engagements feature Landfill's debut, repelling Megatron and Scourge at an Arctic energy facility. Later, Landfill stabilized the collapsing CGA Tower by constructing new foundations. The combiner repeatedly confronted the Decepticon gestalt Ruination, including a near-fatal underground battle in oil-filled tunnels. During the final conflict against Galvatron, Landfill aided in protecting Optimus Prime, only to be paralyzed by Galvatron's energy field until Omega Prime secured victory.

Beyond the primary series, the Build Team joined the interdimensional Dimensional Patrol in one continuity. Later abducted by Unicron to serve as combatants in the Cauldron, a rescue attempt by Rhinox diverted them to a frozen planetoid. After aiding Autobots from another timeline against Unicron's forces, they returned to their native universe. In an alternate reality under Viron 704.31 Epsilon, Megazarak reprogrammed the Build Team into the Constructicons using the Robo-Smasher, repurposing them as the combiner Devastator.
