Their duty centers on protecting the Soul Dew, a crystalline artifact infused with the life essence of their father, who perished centuries ago to shield the city from disaster by flooding its streets into waterways. Orphaned by this act, the siblings were raised in secrecy by Lorenzo, the city’s museum curator, within a secluded garden sanctuary.
Gentle yet resolute, Latios avoids confrontation but transforms into a fierce defender when threats arise against Latias or Alto Mare. His telepathic prowess enables emotional perception, silent communication with humans, and "Sight Sharing," projecting his visions to others. Aerodynamic mastery allows him to outpace jet aircraft by retracting his forelegs mid-flight. Through Mega Evolution, his form shifts to vibrant purple with expanded wings, amplifying his speed and power.
When mercenaries Annie and Oakley seize the Soul Dew to control Alto Mare’s Defense Mechanism (DMA), Latios is captured and forced to activate the system. Severely wounded during the DMA’s hijacking, he joins Latias to counteract a tsunami unleashed by the mechanism’s corruption. Their combined power halts the catastrophe, but Latios perishes, his spirit merging with a newly formed Soul Dew to eternally guard the city.
