He is grandfather to Bianca, a local artist, and shares a close bond with the current Latios and Latias residing in the Secret Garden, accessible only through the museum. Lorenzo oversees their protection and maintains their secrecy from the populace.

He provides Ash, Misty, and Brock a historical tour of Alto Mare, explaining the city's founding, the Soul Dew's significance, and revealing the Defense Mechanism of Alto Mare (DMA), an ancient system powered by the artifact. After Latias's human disguise is discovered, Lorenzo guides Ash to the Secret Garden, introducing the group to Latios and Latias and explaining their guardian role.

When thieves Annie and Oakley steal the Soul Dew and capture Latios, Lorenzo attempts to intervene but is incapacitated. After Latios is severely weakened by the DMA's misuse, Lorenzo warns Annie against touching the corrupted Soul Dew; ignoring his warning, she triggers a catastrophic tidal wave. Following Latios's sacrifice to neutralize the tsunami, Lorenzo places the newly formed Soul Dew—containing the deceased Latios's spirit—into the city's central mechanism, ensuring Alto Mare's continued protection. He is last seen overseeing the restoration of peace.
