Description
Cpl. Mellowlink Arity stands as the lone survivor of Unit 512, an infantry squad deliberately sacrificed near the Hundred Years' War's end. Military command stripped his unit of armored trooper support, issued obsolete weapons, and deployed them as an expendable last stand. Commanding officer 2nd Lt. Schweppes F. Brian shielded Mellowlink during a top brass attempt to eliminate all remaining squad members. After the unit's destruction in fierce combat, military leadership framed Mellowlink for crimes he didn't commit, scapegoating him in the Pranbandol Scandal.
Escaping captivity, he stole an anti-armor trooper rifle and collected his deceased comrades' dog tags. Carrying these tags, he embarked on a mission to hunt down the commanding officers responsible for his unit's betrayal and his wrongful framing. He operates across wilderness, urban colosseums, jungles, and railways, ritualistically smearing blood across his face before each engagement as tribute to his fallen squad.
An infantry soldier facing mechanized opponents, his tactics exploit environmental weaknesses and target armored trooper vulnerabilities. Pursuing Officer Ganard aboard a military train revealed his unit's sacrifice was part of a larger conspiracy involving resource diversion orchestrated by General Oscar von Helumesion. This shifted his focus from individual revenge toward uncovering the full conspiracy. His journey intersects with Lulucy, later revealed as Furureru C. Helumesion, the general's niece and a displaced noble with personal grievances against her uncle.
Mellowlink's mission expands to expose military corruption linked to the Pranbandol Scandal while eliminating those directly involved in his unit's destruction. He adapts strategies to diverse combat zones—prisons, forests, abandoned industrial complexes—utilizing specialized equipment like commandeered military bikes for mobility and tactical advantage. His development shows increased focus on unraveling systemic corruption while maintaining his commitment to honoring fallen comrades through direct confrontation.
