Description
Poemi Watanabe, who insists on the alias "Kobayashi," is a hyperactive 10-year-old overflowing with wasteful energy. She attends school enthusiastically but struggles academically, consistently earning poor grades. Her driving ambition is to become a famous voice actress, despite possessing notably poor vocal talent. She harbors an intense, unrequited crush on her classmate K, later revealed as an octopus-like alien prince leading an Earth invasion. Concurrently, her classmate Futaba Aasu openly pursues Poemi romantically, though Poemi remains oblivious to her advances.

Poemi was adopted by Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe (an animated alter-ego of a real director) and Kumi-Kumi, living with them and their robotic pet dog. This family was brutally attacked by Alien #1, an extraterrestrial assassin, resulting in the crucifixion deaths of her adoptive parents. Following this tragedy, Poemi moves in with Futaba and her six sisters, the Aasu family, who secretly protect Earth. During an attack by a giant alien robot, Poemi encounters a silent man implied to be her biological father, who gives her a magical fish. Gutting the fish transforms it into a wand, enabling her to become Puni Puni Poemy—a magical girl embodying the living will of Earth.

Transformed, Poemi exhibits drastic physical changes, including noticeably larger breasts, and gains vast supernatural powers: reality warping, toonforce, fourth-wall awareness, planetary-scale destruction, regeneration, telekinesis, flight, time manipulation, and resistance to plot manipulation. She discards the fish wand immediately after her initial transformation, confirming it's unnecessary for her abilities. Despite this immense power, she uses it erratically—punishing minor infractions with excessive force, accidentally diverting a nuclear missile to destroy an entire country, and prioritizing her voice-acting ambitions over heroism. Her personality remains consistently loud, ditzy, and prone to dramatic outbursts, often breaking the fourth wall by calling Nabeshin "the Director" and maintaining her "Kobayashi" alias even while transformed.

Her minimal character development pivots during Earth's full-scale alien invasion led by K. After K captures and tortures the Aasu sisters, Poemi collaborates with Futaba, combining their powers to defeat the invaders. The alien henchmen are unexpectedly revealed to be her resurrected adoptive parents, Nabeshin and Kumi-Kumi—explained by Kumi-Kumi's acupuncture skills negating their deaths. The story concludes ambiguously, with Nabeshin declaring Futaba the true protagonist despite Poemi's central role.
