Description
Rosmarine, known as the White Prince, serves as the austere student superintendent of Lacombrade Academy, a late 19th-century French all-boys boarding school. His imposing presence—marked by long, wavy blonde hair, unnerving purple eyes, and a perpetually stern expression—is amplified by crisp formal attire and the symbolic whip he carries. A reputation for icy sadism and calculated cruelty cements his fearsome authority among students and faculty.

Born the spoiled third son of a Scandinavian aristocratic family, Rosmarine’s youth was defined by entitlement and manipulation. His complex bond with Jules de Ferrier, a childhood friend from a disgraced noble house, exposed early mercenary tendencies: leveraging wealth to control Jules and delighting in tormenting servants’ children. At fifteen, he endured sexual violence at the hands of Auguste Beau, Gilbert Cocteau’s abusive uncle, an ordeal that seeded lasting anxiety and an aversion to emotional intimacy.

As superintendent, Rosmarine enforces draconian discipline at Lacombrade, presiding over Sunday masses and projecting an image of moral rigor. This facade masks hypocrisy; he publicly condemns homosexuality while secretly collaborating with Auguste. Initially hostile toward Gilbert, viewing him as irredeemably tainted by shared abuse, Rosmarine reluctantly shifts from antagonist to ally. He orchestrates Gilbert and Serge’s escape from the academy, deploying resources to shield them from Auguste’s schemes.

Later narratives, including *Koufuku no Hato*, unveil dormant vulnerabilities. Unresolved feelings for Cerdina, Jules’ sister, hint at a capacity for tenderness, while his academic mastery of Latin and classical studies contrasts sharply with inner turmoil. Though self-interest and cruelty often drive his actions, his aid to Gilbert and Serge suggests a fractured path toward redemption—hindered by unprocessed trauma and an inflexible, aristocratic worldview.
