Chokai loyally serves Benares, commander of Kaiyanwang's demon forces. His primary mission is locating and destroying Konron, mystical gateways linking the human world to the sacred Sanjiyan realm. He wields enchanted talismans in combat, employing explosive attacks and imprisonment spells, backed by expertise in celestial calligraphy. Despite his bulky build, he demonstrates martial arts proficiency.

He possesses two distinct physical forms. His primary appearance resembles a Chinese human, featuring a whisker-like mustache, round dark spectacles, a heavy trench coat, and a fedora. His secondary form is a larger, muscular demonic entity retaining the glasses and mustache. This form exhibits elongated teeth and the ability to open his body, revealing internal tentacles and negative space, allowing him to consume opponents.

Chokai commands various demons, including Hong-nyang, whom he calls Ran Pao Pao. He initially controls her as an asset for his missions. However, after Ran Pao Pao forms an independent bond with Pai through kindness, she shifts allegiance, weakening Chokai's influence and resources. This loss marks a significant setback to his objectives.

Chokai is noted for his unsettling chuckle. His narrative role centers on antagonistic actions driven by loyalty to Benares's goals, particularly obstructing Pai and Yakumo's quests by targeting dimensional gateways and deploying subordinate demons.
