OVA
Description
Mikako Nagamine is a junior high school student with brown hair and yellow eyes, typically dressed in her school uniform: a short-sleeved white shirt, blue vest, red tie, and blue skirt. She forms a deep bond with classmate Noboru Terao, centering her personality on profound loyalty and affection for him.

Selected by the UN Space Army to pilot a Tracer mecha, Mikako joins the spacecraft carrier Lysithea's expedition against the alien Tarsians. This assignment separates her from Earth and Noboru shortly after graduation. Despite the growing distance, she maintains communication, sending text messages via mobile phone. As the Lysithea travels from Mars to Jupiter, the Kuiper Belt, and finally the Sirius star system, transmission delays extend from minutes to years. Messages sent upon reaching Sirius's fourth planet, Agartha, require over eight years to reach Earth.

Her emotional state evolves significantly during isolation. Initially determined and hopeful about reuniting with Noboru, she experiences intensifying despair and loneliness as communication delays worsen. Engaged in combat against the Tarsians, she frequently composes messages to Noboru even amid life-threatening battles, reflecting her persistent emotional attachment. During the Sirius system conflict, she participates in defending the Lysithea after three allied carriers are destroyed. Following the battle, she allows her damaged Tracer to drift in space.

In the anime conclusion, she floats adrift after surviving, expressing a determined promise of eventual reunion with Noboru despite the uncertainty. The manga adaptation provides expanded context and an alternate resolution: during the Sirius conflict, 16-year-old Mikako transmits a final message explicitly declaring her love for Noboru, knowing it will take years to reach him. After the battle, learning of a UN rescue mission en route for survivors, she reviews the roster and discovers Noboru—now 25 years old and enlisted in the UN Space Force—is among the rescue team. This revelation solidifies her conviction that their reunion will occur.
