Evergreen is a Mage belonging to the Fairy Tail guild, where she serves as the sole female member of the elite team known as the Thunder God Tribe. Her childhood dream was to become a fairy, a goal that led her to join the guild primarily attracted by its name rather than any sense of camaraderie. As a child, she was lonely and anti-social because her unique magical eyes had the power to turn anyone who met her gaze into stone, a curse that forced her to wear glasses to control the ability and isolate herself from others.

Throughout the series, Evergreen is initially characterized as vain, confident, and highly demanding. She possesses a sophisticated and elegant demeanor, often looking down on those she considers beneath her. This arrogance was particularly directed at her fellow guild member Erza Scarlet, whose nickname Titania, meaning Queen of the Fairies, was a source of deep resentment for Evergreen. Her love for fairies is matched by a strong dislike for devils, and she has an appreciation for flowers and statues. Despite her tough exterior, she is not without emotion; she is deeply loyal to her comrades, particularly Laxus Dreyar, whom she admires greatly, and she has been shown to experience genuine guilt and care for others, such as when she tearfully apologized to Elfman Strauss following a defeat.

Her role in the story begins antagonistically during the Fighting Festival arc, where she and the Thunder God Tribe follow Laxus in a rebellion against the guild. To enforce Laxus's will, she uses her magic to petrify all the female Mages participating in a beauty contest, threatening to let them crumble to dust if her guildmates do not win against them. She is ultimately defeated in a direct confrontation by Erza, who uses an artificial eye to negate her petrifying gaze. Following Laxus's subsequent exile from the guild, Evergreen and her teammates remain in Fairy Tail, and she begins a slow but noticeable process of opening up to the rest of the guild, softening her previously cold and distant personality.

A key relationship that aids her development is with Elfman Strauss. Initially just two Mages forced into a team, their dynamic evolves through a series of combative and comedic encounters. During the S-Class Mage Promotion Trial on Tenrou Island, they form an impromptu team after being left out by their usual comrades. In a desperate battle against the much more powerful Mirajane, they manage to win by cleverly distracting her with a lie that Evergreen and Elfman were going to be married. This incident begins a lasting, if often tumultuous, bond between the two, showcasing a more vulnerable and playful side of her personality. Over time, her loyalty extends beyond the Thunder God Tribe to the guild as a whole, demonstrating a fierce protectiveness for those she considers family, such as when she used her body as a shield to protect Ichiya of Blue Pegasus.

Evergreen primarily employs two types of Magic: her signature Eye Magic and Fairy Magic. Her most famous ability is Stone Eyes, which petrifies anyone who makes direct eye contact with her. This magic is ineffective against non-humans, people wearing glasses, or those with prosthetic eyes. She can also use her eyes for remote control, issuing commands to those she has petrified. Her Fairy Magic allows her to generate and control luminous, explosive dust particles. She uses this dust for a variety of attacks, including the Fairy Bomb Gremlin, where she surrounds a target with dust before detonating it, and the Fairy Machine Gun Leprechaun, which fires a rapid barrage of energy needles. To complement these abilities, she can also sprout wings from her back to achieve high-speed, agile flight.
