Description
Pegas is a giant robot collaboratively developed by Professor Amachi and Dr. Minami for Earth's defense against the alien Waldaster threat. Its core function houses the vital "Tek-Setter" system, enabling pilot Joji Minami's transformation into the armored warrior Tekkaman. This process requires Joji's vocal command "Pegas! Tek-Setter!", prompting Pegas's audible "Roger" response. Joji then enters a specialized internal chamber where high-voltage currents condense and strengthen human cells, enabling full environmental adaptation while applying protective armor plating. Failure to match Pegas's specific wavelength during this process results in severe burns.
Beyond transformation, Pegas serves as Tekkaman's primary transport in space combat, demonstrating flight capabilities and engaging directly in battle using integrated weaponry, including the "High Court Voltekka" attack. The robot exhibits notable endurance, continuing operations despite sustaining significant damage during critical missions. Pegas also relays tactical data to Tekkaman via its communications systems during confrontations.
In the English adaptation, Pegas's voice actor additionally portrays the unrelated character Randrox and the series narrator. This expanded role delivers exposition, contextualizes events, and describes off-screen actions throughout the dubbed episodes. Randrox appears as a distinct entity within the English narrative, though details about his background or connection to Pegas remain undefined in available sources.
Pegas appears in crossover media including the PlayStation title *Tatsunoko Fight* and the *Tatsunoko vs. Capcom* series. These appearances maintain its depiction as a combat-capable mechanical entity supporting Tekkaman, without significant narrative expansion. The robot also features in the *Infini-T Force* crossover anime, its role consistent with core capabilities rather than developing new character dimensions.
The series' cancellation after 26 episodes prevented full exploration of Pegas's intended narrative arc. Unrealized plotlines included implementing the "Leap Flight Engine" for interstellar travel and deeper examination of its operational limits. The unresolved conclusion depicts Pegas charging toward the Waldaster command center during a large-scale invasion, leaving its ultimate fate undetermined.
