This allegiance drove his participation in Laxus's coup attempt. During the battle, he employed his magic to trap guild members in combat-centric enchantments and erected barriers restricting movement by age or status. Ordered to kill guildmates like Cana Alberona and Juvia Lockser, he initially complied out of devotion to Laxus but later expressed regret. After the coup failed and Laxus was expelled, Fried shaved his head in atonement (though his hair later regrew).
