Description
General Gattler functions as the central antagonist throughout the Space Warrior Baldios television series and film. As military leader of planet S-1, he governs a world on the brink of ecological collapse from severe radiation pollution. Convinced S-1 is beyond saving, he dismisses Professor Raegan's environmental restoration efforts. He executes a coup by assassinating the emperor and framing Raegan's son, Marin, for the murder, thereby eliminating opposition to seize absolute power. Subsequently, he orders the extermination of Raegan's scientific team and assumes the title of president.
Gattler orchestrates the evacuation of S-1's population aboard the fortress Algol, launching a campaign to conquer Earth as a new homeworld. During the hyperspace jump to Earth, Marin escapes and arrives separately. Commanding his fleet, including subordinate Rosa Aphrodia, Gattler directs a sustained assault against Earth's defenses. His tactics escalate to deploying artificial suns that melt Earth's polar ice caps, deliberately triggering catastrophic tsunamis that devastate the planet and eliminate much of its population.
This environmental destruction unexpectedly reveals Earth's landscape as identical to S-1's. Gattler and his forces confront the revelation that S-1 is Earth's far future and their hyperspace time travel initiated the same pollution cycle that doomed their home. Gattler categorically rejects this truth, insisting on continuing the conquest regardless. His refusal to acknowledge the consequences sparks dissent within his ranks, including Aphrodia's defection. He meets his end in a final confrontation against Marin piloting the Baldios mecha, culminating in his death and the destruction of his forces.
