Description
Lector is a male Exceed, a small anthropomorphic cat-like species affiliated with the Sabertooth guild in Fiore. His fur is predominantly red, accented with pink on his face, belly, paws, and tail tip, and features dark brown tufts near his cheekbones. He possesses large pointed ears and walks upright, using his front legs as hands. He typically wears an open blue sleeveless vest with three dark buttons fastened on the right side, the Sabertooth guild mark visible on his back beneath it.
Initially marked by extreme arrogance, Lector consistently belittled wizards from other guilds while fervently praising Sabertooth, especially his partner Sting Eucliffe. He frequently asserted Sabertooth's inevitable superiority during events like the Grand Magic Games, even berating fellow Exceed Frosch for doubting their victory. This arrogance showed as dismissiveness toward opponents and shock when Sabertooth faced setbacks like Yukino Agria's defeat or dropping to second place in the rankings.
Lector originated from one of the hundred Exceed eggs sent to Earth-land as part of Extalia's survival plan. Witnessing Sting fight, he followed him and begged to become his student, driven by a desire for strength despite Sting's initial confusion. Sting eventually accepted. Years later, after others mocked his claims that Sting slew the dragon Weisslogia, Lector tearfully approached Sting; Sting comforted him, promising to defeat the powerful mage Salamander to prove his strength.
During the Grand Magic Games, Lector served primarily as Sting's supportive companion. He accompanied Frosch to investigate Natsu Dragneel's participation and later explained Sting and Rogue Cheney's status as Third Generation Dragon Slayers to Natsu and Lucy Heartfilia. He vocally supported Sabertooth members throughout the Games. His demeanor shifted dramatically during Sting and Rogue's tag-team battle against Natsu and Gajeel Redfox. Initially confident, Lector became distraught as the fight progressed, crying when Sting was overwhelmed and recalling their first meeting. Sting's defeat left Lector speechless and deeply shaken.
A pivotal moment occurred after this loss. When Sabertooth's master Jiemma assaulted Sting and Rogue for their failure, Lector intervened despite visible fear. He defended them, asserting they had done their best and defeat could foster growth, signaling a departure from his previous arrogance. Jiemma retaliated by attacking Lector for bearing the Sabertooth mark, but Minerva Orland secretly used her magic to teleport him to another dimension moments before impact. Minerva then held Lector hostage, demanding Sting's victory for their reunion.
Lector was later freed when Minerva released another captive, Millianna; he hid under Millianna's cloak until her return to the stadium. He emotionally reunited with Sting after Sting surrendered in his match, both crying in relief. Lector remained Sting's loyal companion as Sabertooth reformed under new leadership. He encouraged Sting during the dragon invasion of Crocus and participated in defensive efforts, wielding a stick to protect Frosch. His role solidified as a steadfast supporter of Sting and the guild's renewed values of camaraderie.
