Description
Shuten Doji, also known as Shuten-dōji or Shuten-douji, is a figure from Japanese folklore adapted into the *Fate* series, particularly *Fate/Grand Order*. She stands as one of Japan's Three Great Monsters and manifests as an Assassin-class Servant. Her origins remain ambiguous, theorized as either the direct offspring of the Great God Ibuki (associated with Yamata no Orochi) or a descendant inheriting that bloodline. Alternative accounts suggest she is a heaven-sent child of Mount Togakushi, linked to Kuzuryū, the Nine-Headed Dragon. Regardless, she is confirmed as a child of a Dragon God, sharing this draconic heritage with Sakata Kintoki. Her companion Ibaraki-dōji named her Ibuki-dōji upon recognizing her connection to Yamata no Orochi's power. Shuten Doji herself rarely speaks of her past, possibly having forgotten it, prioritizing hedonistic pleasures.

She presents as a petite female with pale, light-purple-tinged skin and short purple hair reaching her neck. Her lustrous purple eyes feature red makeup above them. Horns emerge naturally from her body, transitioning from pale skin tones to wine-red tips. Her attire consists of a long, open bluish-purple kimono worn without a sash, exposing most of her body except for metallic coverings over her breasts, crotch, fingers, wrists, toes, and heels. Gold ornaments with green jewels adorn her forehead, and red ribbons tie around her ankles. Three gourds hang at her waist: a small brown one, a white sake container, and a large blue glass gourd used to unleash poisonous liquid in combat. Higher ascension stages alter her appearance, featuring a shortened kimono tied with a wine-red sash and a red lantern bearing the kanji for "drunk" or "poisoned".

Shuten Doji embodies a chaotic evil alignment, exhibiting a hedonistic and capricious nature. She revels in alcohol, banquets, and what she calls "enjoyable performances," viewing love as inseparable from bloodshed and death. Though she communicates in human language, her essence is fundamentally non-human; her affection manifests destructively, often involving seduction and consumption of humans. She collects rare antiques, valuing aesthetic elegance over historical significance. She shows no interest in the Holy Grail, preferring to live unrestrained by past or future desires. Her Kyoto dialect and breathy vocal delivery enhance her seductive, sinister persona, with dialogue often laced with innuendo.

Her relationships are complex: she treats Ibaraki-dōji as a sworn sibling or equal, affectionately chiding her for "sharpening her horns," though Ibaraki led the Mount Ooe oni while Shuten acted as a disinterested "house guest". She shares a history with Sakata Kintoki, whom she met in his youth. Disguised as a beautiful girl, she lured him into "drinking bouts" he perceived as life-threatening "demonic banquets." She retains a fascination with his "Red Dragon Ulna" and views him as "easy to tease". Shuten Doji despises Minamoto no Raikou, referencing her defeat via poisoned sake and decapitation, mockingly criticizing Raikou's physique and "stench of cows".

In Heian period legend, Shuten Doji and her oni followers abducted young men and noblewomen from Kyoto. Abe no Seimei identified her as the culprit, leading Minamoto no Raikou and the Four Heavenly Kings to infiltrate Mount Ooe disguised as monks. At a banquet, they served her poisoned sake ("divine elixir poisonous to demons"), weakening her. Raikou decapitated Shuten Doji as she slept, but her severed head attacked him, thwarted only by his divine helmet. This "foul play" reportedly caused Kintoki lasting regret.

As a Servant, Shuten Doji wields abilities like "Fruity Accord," an intoxicating scent-based charm, and "Oni’s Malice," granting party-wide attack and NP damage boosts. Her Noble Phantasm, "Iridescent Divine Demonic Poison," unleashes poisonous sake that damages enemies, reduces their stats, and inflicts toxic status. Passive skills include "Divinity C," enhancing damage, "Presence Concealment C," improving critical star generation, and "Battle Continuation A+" enabling guts revival.
