Anna Heartfilia, a human mage and ancestral member of the Heartfilia clan preceding Layla and Lucy, originated 400 years ago. She collaborated with Zeref Dragneel and peace-seeking dragons to devise a strategy against Acnologia. This plan sent five Dragon Slayers—Natsu Dragneel, Gajeel Redfox, Wendy Marvell, Sting Eucliffe, and Rogue Cheney—and their dragon foster parents into the future via the Eclipse Gate, a celestial artifact requiring a Celestial Spirit Mage. The dragons concealed their souls within the children to heal from Acnologia's magic during the temporal journey.
Anna educated the Dragon Slayers in their childhood, teaching human language, writing, and culture. She crafted Natsu's scarf using scales shed by Igneel. Before departing her era in year X377, she entrusted her infant child to her husband Tatsuya, urging him to ensure the child's safety and find new happiness if necessary.
