Description
Falmelle Von Volger, later known as Ginrei, is the daughter of scientist Dr. Franken Von Volger, involved in creating the Shizuma Drive. At twelve, she survived the catastrophic Tragedy of Bashtarle, which destroyed the country and killed a third of the world's population, escaping through her latent teleportation ability alongside her father's assistant, Professor Go. For years, she believed only she and Go survived, unaware her father and brother Emmanuel had also escaped.
In the aftermath, Falmelle renounced her birth name, adopting the alias Ginrei. She trained extensively, mastering martial arts, marksmanship, and disguise, becoming a highly skilled agent for the International Police Organisation's (IPO) Experts of Justice team. She avoided using her teleportation power, as each use shortened her lifespan by breaking down her molecular structure.
Ginrei developed a close bond with Giant Robo commander Daisaku Kusama, acting as a protective older sister figure. During the conflict with Big Fire, she safeguarded the third Shizuma Drive sample and rescued Dr. Shizuma. Her past resurfaced when Big Fire deployed the Eye of Volger, a weapon linked to her family. She discovered its controller, Genya, was her brother Emmanuel, who survived Bashtarle and sought revenge against the world for blaming their father.
Genya revealed their father was innocent; the disaster resulted from Dr. Shizuma's negligence. This revelation conflicted Ginrei, but she rejected Genya's methods, deeming him a murderous psychopath. After Big Fire attacked the IPO headquarters at Ryozanpaku, she was placed in suspended animation over fears she might side with Genya. Rescued by Daisaku, she pushed her teleportation power beyond its limits to transport the entire Ryozanpaku fortress to St. Abbey (formerly Bashtarle), the site of the last Shizuma plant.
This act accelerated her physical deterioration. Confronting Genya aboard the Eye of Volger, her body began vanishing due to molecular instability. As she raised the Shizuma sample to destroy it, Genya shot her, killing her instantly. In his grief, Genya realized their father never desired revenge but intended to fix the Shizuma Drive's flaws; he held Ginrei's fading body until it disappeared.
Her character arc includes appearances in spin-off media. The OVA "Ginrei Special" shows her resourcefulness, like retrieving a concealed bazooka. Additional OVAs like "Barefoot Ginrei" and "Mighty Ginrei" explore lighter, humorous adventures unrelated to the main storyline. Her legacy intertwines with themes of familial loyalty, sacrifice, and the burden of inherited tragedy.
